ST. PAUL — Minnesota officials are ready to announce next year’s rates for health insurance purchased through the state exchange, and consumers aren’t the only ones eager to see them.

Both political parties and candidates are ready to jump on the rates for potential advantage as the November election approaches. The rates for plans bought through MNsure are generally expected to be higher.

A big jump could be a problem for Gov. Mark Dayton. He has supported the federal health care overhaul and argued that the exchange has been beneficial despite plenty of problems with its website during its first year.

Republican Jeff Johnson has argued the federal overhaul has been bad for businesses. He supports petitioning to let Minnesota out of its requirements.
