Albert Lea girls’ swimming team takes 3rd at Austin

The Albert Lea girls’ swimming team won two relays and four individual events to take third place Saturday at the Austin Invitational.
Rochester Mayo won the six-team meet with 610 points, Mankato was second with 482 and Albert Lea was third with 364. Austin finished last with 163.5.
The Tigers were led by Lindsey Horejsi and Anna Andersen. Both swimmers won two individual events and were part of two first-place relay teams.
Horejsi won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.67 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.09. She was also part of the 200 medley relay and freestyle relay teams that took first place.
Andersen won the 50 freestyle in 24.63 seconds and the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.11 seconds. Andersen also swam a leg of the 200 medley and freestyle relays.
Haley Simon and Ahnika Jensen filled out the 200 medley team that finished the race in 1:50.49 and beat the second place team from Mankato West by more than seven seconds. The same lineup for the Tigers won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.85.
Next, Albert Lea will compete at the Section 1A True Team meet at Northfield. Diving will be at 5 p.m. Friday, and swimming will start at noon Saturday.
