A pair of school records were set by the Albert Lea girls’ swimming team Thursday against Mankato West at Minnesota State, Mankato University.
Lindsey Horejsi proved she is one of the fastest swimmers in the state even in events she doesn’t normally swim. She is the defending state champion in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 individual medley, but she switched it up and swam the 200 freestyle on Thursday and beat two-time defending state champion Chantal Nack by 0.39 seconds.
In her bread-and-butter race, the 100 breaststroke, Horejsi set the pool record with a time of 1:02.99.
The 200 freestyle time was one of two Albert Lea school records. Anna Andersen set the other milestone in the 100 backstroke. Her time of 1:01.96 beat the rest of the field by 2.73 seconds. In addition to the backstroke victory, Andersen won the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.29.
Haley Simon won the 100 freestyle in 58.20 seconds and was part of the first-place 400 freestyle relay team with Andersen, Bryn Williams and Horejsi.
The Tigers won five individual events and a relay but were defeated 94-83 by the Scarlets.
Next, Albert Lea will compete at the section true team meet at noon Saturday.
