Weekend Planner: St. Casimir’s School to host burger basket fundraiser at Wells VFW Club

WELLS — St. Casimir’s School is having a burger night.

Come to the Wells VFW Club at 25 S. Broadway, Wells, on Friday for a burger and chips basket. Both dine-in or take-out options are available, and serving is from 5 p.m. until gone.

All tickets are $6 and may be purchased at the door or in advance from St. Casimir’s School.

Founded in 1915, St. Casimir’s School provides a Christ-centered, Catholic college preparatory elementary education for students in preschool through eighth grade.

Friday

• Fabulous Friday for grades K-5 will be 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at City Arena, 701 Lake Chapeau Drive.

• A fundraiser for United Way will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John’s Chapel, 901 Luther Place. Walking tacos, dessert bars and beverages are available for a donation of $3.

• A cancer benefit for Ron Walk will be 4 to 8 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 205 W. William St. There will be a spaghetti supper, a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. There will be music from 8 p.m. to midnight.

• The Hollandale Christian School fall supper will be 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hollandale Christian School. Meal will include ham, potatoes, stuffing, gravy, carrots, apples, Chinese noodle salad, rolls and dessert. Donations are accepted.

• The Fountain Warehouse Liquor Holiday Beer and Wine tasting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove, 2200 W. Ninth St. Cost is $20 and includes hors d’oeuvres, local artists, over 70 wines and beers to sample and a silent auction. All of the proceeds go to the United Way of Freeborn County.

• Family Mystery Movie Night will be 7 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway.

• The Urban Easel will have a painting party fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. at Green Lea Golf Course, 101 E. Richway Drive. There is a $40 fee that includes supplies and lesson.

 

Saturday

• The Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Cancer Education Symposium will be 8 a.m. to noon at Wedgewood Cove, 2200 W. Ninth St. Speakers from the Mayo Clinic will share the latest in cancer treatment. Speakers will be Ruth Bachman, Sydney Schone, Cory Ingram and Robert Foote. Reservations are required. Call 379-2046 to register.

• A lecture on “The Russian Immigrant Experience” will be 9 to 10 a.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, 1031 Bridge Ave. The cost is free to museum members and $5 to nonmembers.

• The Hunter’s Lunch and Bake Sale for Moscow Lutheran Church will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Moscow Town Hall. There will be hot coffee, donuts, chili, sandwiches and home-baked goods.

• The Albert Lea Community Band is having a concert honoring veterans at 2 p.m. at the Bohemian Brick Hall near Myrtle.

• The Alden American Legion steak fry will be 5 to 8 p.m. at the Alden American Legion, 151 N. Broadway, Alden. Ten ounce ribeye steaks, baked potatoes, cole slaw and garlic toast will be served. Cost is $13.

• The DC Drifters will perform a Fabulous ‘50s show at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway.

 

Sunday

• Enjoy Sunday breakfast at the Albert Lea American Legion, 142 N. Broadway. Pancakes, sausages, potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without ham, fruit cups, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Cost is $7.
