Lois Placek, 1921-2014

Lois Elaine Placek, 93, of Austin died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.
Lois was born in Albert Lea on Oct. 16, 1921, to Faville and Ella (Madson) Barneck. She married Richard Placek on Oct. 5, 1942. Lois was a homemaker and raised five children. She loved to garden, knit and sew. She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
Lois loved children and was always taking care of her grandchildren and her children’s friends. They all thought of her as a second mom. She was gifted with a great sense of humor. There was always laughter in the room when she was there. Up until her passing, she was still making people laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Placek; sons David Placek and James Placek; and sister-in-law, Virginia Prange.
Lois is survived by her daughters Patricia (Roy) Taylor of Flora Vista, N.M., Pamela (Arnold) Schwamm of Wabasha and Amy Placek of Blooming Prairie; daughter-in-law, Karen Placek; grandchildren Jason (Manuela) Libersky, Michelle (Timothy) Davis, Derek Placek, Allison (Taryn) Sellers, Kimberly Placek, Melissa Placek (Jason Brossoit), Alan Adams (Megan) and Alex Enright; great-grandchildren Michael Davis, Jacob Davis, Rayanna Placek, Gabrielle Brossoit, Shelby Brossoit, Mason Brossoit and Anton Libersky; sister, Betty Derby, of Kasson; brother, Kenneth Barneck, of Taiwan; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Doreen) Placek, of Castaic, Calif.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Elizabeth Endicott officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.
