Freeborn County Sheriff-elect Kurt Freitag has selected the county’s civil process deputy to be his second-in-command.
Todd Earl has worked for the Sheriff’s Office since 1996 and before he was assigned to civil process he worked on patrol, Freitag said.
Earl will become chief deputy at the beginning of January when Freitag takes over as sheriff.
Freitag commended Earl’s knowledge of the department and noted he has many of the same goals moving ahead.
“As long as I’ve known Todd, he has always shown such a great ability to talk with people,” Freitag said. “He’s a good communicator, and an effective communicator.”
The sheriff-elect said Earl is respected by the other deputies. He described him as a hard worker with an analytical mind.
The civil process portion of the Sheriff’s Office serves as a support to the courts, carrying out orders and writs issued by the county’s judges.
Earl also handled the Sheriff’s Office property sales.
