Albert Lea school board to vote on cuts

Albert Lea’s school board will vote on proposed cuts of staff in the district at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Brookside Education Center.

Parents and students concerned about the loss of a band director and other changes in the district have said they plan to attend.

Proclamation event planned for Tuesday

Join local leader for a proclamation against child abuse event at 10 a.m. at The Children’s Center in Albert Lea. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the event is sponsored by the Freeborn County Child Abuse Prevention Council.

Former sheriff’s worker in court

Former Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office employee Kelley Davenport, who faces four counts of felony theft for allegedly cashing checks issued to the Sheriff’s Office for her own use, is expected to appear in Freeborn County District Court today.

Davenport is being represented by Albert Lea lawyer Peggy Rockow.

Health program takes place Thursday

A free program, “Puzzles of Health Care Reform: Medical Homes, Advance Directives, Annual Wellness Visits and More,” is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at HealthReach, 1705 S.E. Broadway, Albert Lea.

Today’s challenges in health care continue to puzzle the patient as well as the medical community. Albert Lea Medical Center is adjusting to the puzzles of health care reform. The Medical Home concept will be explained, as well as the Medicare Annual Wellness Visit that is new to all Medicare participants. Staff will also take a look at advance directives.

Albert Lea-Austin rivalry takes the field

The Albert Lea and Austin rivalry will begin again at 5 p.m. Thursday when the baseball teams and softball teams square off for the first time this season.

The baseball teams play at Hayek Field and the softball teams play at Austin.
