The Albert Lea School Board didn’t meet as intended Monday night, as a quorum wasn’t reached. Julie Johnson, Jill Marin and Mark Ciota were missing from the meeting.

Chairwoman Linda Laurie was planning to start a discussion of mandatory summer school and intersession instruction on the proposed calendar.

The proposed calendar was voted down by the board on Dec. 1 with a 3-3 vote.

While Superintendent Mike Funk and Deputy Superintendent Lori Volz were at the meeting Monday, as usual, they don’t count for quorum as they are non-voting members.

At least 50 community members had showed, nearly filling the new board room that the school board meets in on the second floor of Brookside Education Center.

The school board was going to look at a first reading of Policy 623, which encompasses mandatory summer school and intersession instruction. This policy was to be presented by administrators Jim Quiram, Mary Williams and Volz.

The board had planned to discuss the 2013-14 audit summary, approve the 2013-14 school district audit report, take action on a resolution discontinuing educational programs and positions, take action on a resolution placing a licensed staff member on unrequested leave of absence and take action on a memorandum of understanding with the Albert Lea Education Association.

As of press time, no reschedule date has been announced.
