The Green Lea junior golf team finished fifth after the first day of the Minnesota Junior PGA state tournament Wednesday at Monticello Country Club.

Tyler Brackey, Sam Matheson, Bob Peterson and Casey Marka shot 229 to place the team in a tie for fifth with Rum River Hills. Minnetonka leads the tournament with a 223. Only three of the four scores count toward the team total.

Brackey led the team with a 2-over 73 and Matheson followed with a 3-over 74. Brackey is tied for seventh overall and Matheson ninth. Petson shot 82 and Marka 85 on the day.

“Pretty much everything was clicking today,” said Brackey, who is competing in the state tournament for the second time in his career.

The tournament concluded Thursday.
