It came down to the last individual match of the final dual for the Lake Mills wrestling team.
The Bulldogs clung to a six-point lead headed into the 170-pound match Saturday at the Northwood-Kensett dual tournament, and a pin by Grant Boehmer in the second period gave Lake Mills a 37-25 win and the tournament crown.
“Our kids wrestled really hard in the Byron dual,” said Lake Mills coach Alex Brandenburg. “We did a nice job picking up pins and avoiding giving them up.”
Byron and Lake Mills met for the tournament title the last six years at Northwood-Kensett, and the Bears had won five of them, Brandenburg said.
Northwood-Kensett finished fifth out of six teams.
The day consisted of five duals for the Bulldogs, and they won each one. They beat Garner-Hayfield 63-15, Northwood-Kensett 65-12, Turkey Valley 75-3, Rockford 67-12 and Byron.
Five Lake Mills wrestlers went undefeated at the tournament: Zach Johnson, Max Bergo, Brady Schmidt, Slade Sifuentes, and Andrew Olsen.
