Funeral services for Lindsay “Gene” Walls will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Revs. Grady Walls and Kent Otterman will officiate. Interment will be at Forest City Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by local servicemen’s organizations, the VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Gene died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at his home.

Lindsay Eugene Walls was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Vardaman, Mississippi, the son of Clinton and Liana (Stowe) Walls. He graduated from Concord, California, high school. After graduation Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he worked with his brother landscaping in Lake Mills. Gene also later worked at Fleetguard and Universal Milking.

On Sept. 5, 1968, Gene was united in marriage to Shirley Lindberg at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  After Shirley’s death Gene and Christine Gries had a civil ceremony on Oct. 18, 2009. He was a former member of Grace Christian Church. Gene was an avid Star Trek fan and he also collected Civil War memorabilia. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his son, David (Christine) Walls; grandchildren Joshua Walls, Emily Walls and Evan Venosa; significant other, Christine Gries; stepsons Charles A. Anderson and Kevin E. Anderson; step-grandchildren Jessica Anderson, Robert Anderson and Melissa Anderson; three step-great-grandchildren; brother, Grady Walls; and sister, Mildred Young.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley Walls; and brothers Richard, John, Jack and Leo.
