ST. PAUL — The state campaign finance board has dismissed a complaint by the Republican Party of Minnesota against Gov. Mark Dayton’s campaign and the state DFL party.

The GOP filed the complaint on Oct. 31, just days before the November election. The complaint alleged that Dayton’s campaign and the DFL party both coordinated to produce a campaign commercial.

The complaint accused Dayton’s campaign committee and the Minnesota DFL of colluding to create the ads, which featured footage of Dayton speaking to a pair of students.

The Minnesota DFL Party said Tuesday the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board dismissed the complaint.

State DFL Chairman Ken Martin calls the complaint “a last-ditch effort by Republicans to smear” Dayton.

Minnesota Republican Chairman Keith Downey calls the dismissal “surprising.”
