National Theatre Live will bring spoken word, dance and an interesting life story to Albert Lea this weekend.
DV8 Physical Theatre is performing “John” with the National Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Albert Lea Community Theatre website calls the play a “powerful” production.
“John” depicts real-life stories that DV8’s artistic director, Lloyd Newson, discovered based on interviews.
Newson interviewed 50 men and asked them frank questions, ACT’s website says, and one of those men was John, who the play focuses on. The play combines spoken word and movement.
In the play, the character of John went through years of crime and drug abuse. After struggling to stay alive for many years, he desires a new life. However, this leads him to a new, unknown place.
ACT’s website calls the story “extraordinary and touching.”
DV8 Physical Theatre has produced 18 dance and theater works and four films. These works have earned the company over 50 national and international awards.
Tickets for the play are $20 for adults and $12 for students, and can be purchased at actonbroadway.com.
“John” contains adult themes, strong language and nudity, so it is suitable for viewers over the age of 18, according to the ACT website.
