Maxine Ruth Miller, known to everyone as Micki, was born Feb. 13, 1922, the youngest of four children, to Arthur and Lillian (Nelson) Halland in Storden. She was baptized and confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. She grew up in rural Storden, attended country school and graduated from Storden High School in 1939.
She attended St. Paul Farm Campus in St. Paul for two years, where she met and later married the love of her life, Keith Miller, on Oct. 10, 1943. They resided on their family farm, Greenleaf Farm, near Freeborn for many wonderful years.
Micki’s greatest love was her family. She enjoyed all the times spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind and gentle woman who was loved by all who knew her. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and taught family members to make the special foods that were a part of her traditions including lefse, julekage and flatbread. She and Keith traveled extensively, visiting China, Japan and several European countries. They spent many winters in Florida escaping the Minnesota cold. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. She died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, after living a long and happy life.
Micki is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Keith; four children, Brad (Karen) Miller of Freeborn, Dianne (Richard) Wanzek of Hutchinson, Kristin (Leonard) Schultz of Hartland and Lisa (Donald) Boeck of Mankato; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A private family prayer service has been held. A memorial service will be at a later date.
