Albert Lea boys’ hockey team crushes Rochester Mayo

The most offensive production the Albert Lea boys’ hockey team had in a single game was five goals.
On Thursday, the Tigers lit the lamp nine times and did so on the road against the top team in the Big Nine Conference.
Albert Lea (8-7 overall, 5-4 Big Nine Conference) had six players score in a 9-1 win at Rochester Mayo (11-4-1 overall, 7-2 Big Nine Conference).
Both of the Spartans’ conference losses are against the Tigers.
The nine goals were the most given up by Rochester Mayo this year. It took the Spartans six games at the start of the season before they allowed a combined nine goals.
Foster Otten scored Albert Lea’s first goal 2:35 into the first period, and it snowballed. Lucas Hacker scored about a minute later. Jack Pulley and Dalton Flatness also found he net in the first period.
Pulley scored his second goal of the game 6:10 into the second period, and Alex Claassen scored his first of two goals about a minute later. Dalton Flatness added his second goal at the six-minute mark to give Albert Lea a 7-0 lead.
Rochester Mayo’s Austyn Renn scored a short-handed goal late in the second period, which was the team’s only goal.
Claassen and Tanner Bellrichard scored in the third period for Albert Lea.
In the goal, Albert Lea’s Garrett Matz saved 21-of-22 shots. His season save percentage is .912. Rochester Mayo goalie Chris Wileman stopped 22-of-31 shots. His season save percentage is .885.
Next, the Tigers host Northfield (7-5-2 overall, 4-4-2 Big Nine Conference) at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Raiders defeated Albert Lea 4-2 on Nov. 25, 2014.
