50 years ago: 1965
• Lyle High School remained undefeated at 7-0 after defeating Glenville 91-67. Walt Amacher led Lyle with 27 points. Dan Rodgers scored 16 points for Glenville.
• The Albert Lea wrestling team defeated Northfield 33-11. Winning matches for the Tigers were Mark Allen at 95 pounds; John Demo, 103; Bob Hatch, 112; Ken Stauch, 120; Jerry Lien, 127; Gary Neist, 133; Paul Gilpin, 138; Ken Stencel, 145; Chuck Jean, 154; and Tom Countryman, 175.
• The Minnesota Gophers, with five players scoring in double figures, defeated Wisconsin 81-57. Archie Clark scored 19 points, Lou Hudson, 17, Mel Northway, 16, Don Yates, 12, and Dennis Dvoracek, 10, for the Gophers.
• Larry Sonnek scored 14 points for the Wells Wildcats in their 55-52 victory over New Ulm. The Wildcats improved to 6-2 for the season.
25 years ago: 1990
• Jason Willner scored 12 points and Pat Jirele, 11, for the Albert Lea boys’ basketball team in its 57-54 win over Faribault.
• Glenville-Emmons defeated Alden-Conger-Freeborn 83-79. The Wolverines were led by Shannon Froendt’s 37 points and Brad Adams with 14. Joe Nelson scored 21 points and Aaron Phillips, 19, for the Knights.
• The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team won 5-1 win over Rochester Lourdes. Anders Larson and Brett Adams each scored two goals, and Bill Deyak added a goal.
• South Central, with Kirstin Hugdahl scoring 16 points, defeated the Alden-Conger-Freeborn girls’ basketball team 59-48. Darcy Evenson led all scorers with 22 points for the Knights.
10 years ago: 2005
• The Albert Lea boys’ basketball team raised its season record to 7-6 with a 51-37 victory over Rochester Mayo. Ryan Moore scored 19 points and Parker Skophammer had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers.
• United South Central, behind 22 points by Brandon Hauge, defeated Maple River 54-51 in overtime.
• Tyler Ziebell scored 17 points and Wade Flattum, 12, for the Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball team in its 62-43 win over Alden-Conger.
