Weekend Planner: ‘Treasure Island’ on cue at Marion Ross Center

The story of “Treasure Island” will be beaming to Albert Lea this weekend courtesy of National Theatre Live.
“Treasure Island” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway.
This show is suitable for ages 10 and up, according to the Albert Lea Community Theatre website.
“Treasure Island,” written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is a story of murder, money and mutiny. On a dark stormy night, an innkeeper’s granddaughter opens the door to a stranger. At his feet sits a chest full of secrets. The innkeeper invites the stranger in, and his granddaughter’s dangerous adventure beings.
Tickets for the show are $20 for adults and $12 for students and are available at actonbroadway.com.
Friday
• An evening with Useful Jenkins will be 8 p.m. at America’s Best Value Inn, 2306 E. Main St.
Saturday
• Photo workshops will be by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, 1031 Bridge Ave.
• A listening session on property taxes with Rep. Peggy Bennett and Rep. Steve Drazkowski will be 10 a.m. at Prairie Wind Coffee, 211 S. Broadway.
• A Relay for Life bowl-a-thon will be from 1 to 5 p.m. at Holiday Lanes, 522 Prospect Ave. Cost is $20 per person, $10 of which goes to Relay for Life. Participants will get two hours of bowling and free shoe rental. There will be raffles and silent auctions with food and drink specials as well.
Sunday
• Enjoy Sunday breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club, 142 N. Broadway. Pancakes, potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without ham, sausages, fruit cup, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Cost is $7.
• The Alden-Conger music boosters will have a french toast breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A donation will be taken. Funds raised will go towards the Memphis-New Orleans band and choir tour in March.
• The Albert Lea Art Center All-Member Show open house will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Art Center, 226 W. Clark St.
• The Goodtime Band gospel concert will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at Glenville United Methodist Church, 211 1st Ave. SW, Glenville. An offering will be taken and a coffee social will follow.
• The Albert Lea High School choir will have a spaghetti supper and silent auction fundraiser from 4-7 p.m. at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Marion Hall, 315 E. Clark St. Cost is $7, free for children five and under.
