The Lakes Foundation of Albert Lea held its final meeting at the Country Inn and Suites on April 21. The organization has been working for several months on disbanding. In an effort to support the legacy of the lakes in the area, its funds were divided and donated to the Fountain Lake Sportsman’s Club and the Pelican Breeze. The funds will be used to educate the public about clean and sustainable use of the lakes as well as continuing with lake beautification projects. The Lakes Foundation had operated in Albert Lea since 1934 and was responsible for projects like the annual lake clean up, the foundation of the watershed district, and the party for the lakes. The organization’s members remain committed to being stewards of area lakes for years to come.
