Funeral services for Loretta Anne Kermes, age 70, of Hayward will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Myrtle. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Loretta Anne Kermes was born on Sept. 25, 1940, to Thomas and Anne (Humlicek) Nemec in North Bend, Neb. She grew up in Nebraska and moved to rural Hayward with her family when she was 16 years old. Loretta graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1958. She worked at the Freeborn County Courthouse then at Farmers State Bank in Hayward. On Feb. 24, 1962, Loretta was united in marriage to Harold Kermes at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Her Christian faith was an important part of her life. Loretta was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church and served on the Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed being a homemaker, raising their family and was 4-H leader for many years. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking kolaches, her bridge club and bowling leagues. Loretta treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; children, Kim and husband Daniel Otten, Tony and wife Johnna Kermes, Vonnie Carlson and Vicki and husband Bill Arthur; grandchildren, Ella, Julia, Foster and Gigi Otten, Alix, Sage and Levi Kermes, Austin and Dalton Carlson and Riley, Lauren and Grace Arthur; brothers, Ray Nemec and Tom and wife Audrey Nemec; brother and sisters-in-law, Georgia Nyenhuis, Pat Kermes, Harriet Brechtel and Charlie and Mary Kermes; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Anne Nemec; father and mother-in-law, Harry and Henrietta Kermes; sister-in-law, Elaine Nemec; brothers-in-law, Henry Nyenhuis, Phil Kermes and Howard Brechtel.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
