Casper Kycek, 1931-2015

Funeral services for Casper L. Kycek, 83, of Hayward will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral chapel. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by members of the American Legion and VFW honor guard. Leland died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at his home.
Casper Leland Kycek was born June 20, 1931, at home in Hayward, the son of Casper and Frances (Belshan) Kycek. He grew up in Hayward, attended District 35 Grade School and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1949. Leland farmed after school on his family’s farm. In 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until 1959.
On March 16, 1961, Leland was united in marriage to Gertrude “Trudy” Hetz in Albert Lea. Leland was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge No. 44 in Myrtle and the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee at McDonalds, was an animal lover and had several pet cats and dogs over the years. He also took care of many stray cats.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Sylvia Kycek; nieces and nephews Marcella Nerad Nelson, Ann Marie Nerad Day, Judy Kycek Nishimura, Frances Kycek Swenson, Thomas Kycek, Ronald Kycek, Sharon Kycek King, Joe, Frank, Fred and Elaine Pacovsky, Barbara Pacovsky Nathanson and Karen Pacovsky Nyenhuis; cousins; many great nieces and great-nephews; his friend, Jim Quade; and many other friends.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Trudy; his siblings Margaret, Frank, Ernest, Victor, Leonard, Richard, Elsie, Mary and Frances in infancy; and good friend, Robert Bock.
Memorials are preferred to ZCBJ Lodge No. 44 or the Greenwood Cemetery.
