MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Court of Appeals says the sentence for a Maple Grove City Council member for financially exploiting her elderly father is too lenient.
A Hennepin County judge sentenced LeAnn Bobleter Sargent to 120 days in the county workhouse after she pleaded guilty last year to financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult. The appeals court says she should have received three years in prison.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman agreed with the ruling. Freeman said Sargent should have been given a prison term according to the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines. No date has been set for a new sentencing.
Sargent still serves on the Maple Grove council.
