One local woman is hoping to help tornado survivors who also like crafting to deal with the after affects they’re still feeling.

Nancy Larson, owner of Fountain of Memories in Skyline Plaza, is a victim of the June 17 tornadoes and said scrapbooking last summer helped her resolve some issues.

Larson talked with a few other survivors about scrapbooking earlier this year and thought someone should hold an event. She realized she was in a position to hold a scrapbooking event where survivors could scrapbook and talk about their experiences.

The event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at her store. Donna Tuttle will also be speaking at the event about the different stages of grief and how to overcome it.

“It’s important not to keep your grief bottled up,” Larson said. “It’s good to find a way to get it out and be able to move on with your life.”

She said she hoped everyone affected by the tornadoes is finding a way to deal with their grief. Scrapbooking helped her to get over the experience of being in her house during the tornado and the clean up in the days and weeks afterward. She hopes survivors can talk about their experience and get work done on scrapbooks as well.

“Hopefully we’ll just have lot of fun,” Larson said.

There are still seats open for the event. Cost is $30 which goes toward lunch, snacks, coffee and other costs. Funds leftover after the event will be donated to the Salvation Army and Freeborn County Red Cross.
