Beyond saddened and in disbelief, this day came too soon as Angeline James Spell Pappas, 92, fell asleep peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Sandestin, Florida. Their lives have been so enriched with her love, compassion, hard work, nurturing, faith and adventurous spirit.

Angeline Pappas

Born in Decatur, Illinois, to James and Georgia Spell, she married John Gus Pappas in June of 1947, who predeceased her.

She is survived by her five children, Georgeia (Robert) Pappas-Johnson, Charles (Theresa) Pappas, Stephanie (John Robert) Woolf, Michael (Karen) Pappas and James (Mary) Pappas; beloved sister, Catherine Spell Brown; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Angie will be remembered as a beloved and dedicated daughter, wife, mother, sister, Yiayia, Nouna and auntie.

The best years of her life were spent in Albert Lea at Chef Café where the family bonded in community, school and sports events. She was active in numerous positions in the Greek Orthodox church — president of Senior Citizens and Philoptochos Society, and choir — and served as worthy matron and other positions in Eastern Star. Angie had a beautiful voice and loved singing, especially to her grandchildren. She also loved reading and playing with her great-grandchildren. With no notice she would travel or cruise, so her suitcase was always packed.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie chapel, 7625 Mitchell Road in Eden Prairie — one block north of Highway 5 on Mitchell Road. Trisagion will be at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday with visitation one hour prior at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave. S. in Minneapolis. Private interment will be in  Albert Lea.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Angeline Spell Pappas Memorial.
