Knights finish 5th at state tourney

The Albert Lea Knights 10AA team played in the Gopher State Tournament of Champions on July 10-12 and placed ninth in a 32-team field.

The Knights beat Burnsville Gray by a score of 3-2 and then defeated Anoka Ramsey 6-3 in pool play to set up a match up with No. 2 seed Mankato Gold to win the pool. The game was tied 7-7 going into the top of the sixth inning before Mankato put across four runs to win the game and advance to the championship bracket.

The Knights 10AA finished their year by playing in the MBT State Championship on July 17-19. The Knights won their pool by defeating Burnsville Gray by a score of 6-0, then No. 3 seed St. Louis Park 15-8, and finished pool play by beating the Central Raiders 11-7.

The Knights moved in to the championship bracket and proceded to beat Burnsville Gold by a score of 13-7. The Knights then faced Hastings Blue and built an early 2-0 lead before giving up four runs in the bottom of the second and eventually losing by a score of 5-3. The Knights finished in fifth place in the state tournament with a record of 4-1. The 10AA Knights finished their 2009 season with a record of 25-10-1.
