Following two record-breaking successes of “The Nutcracker” and “Swan Lake” live broadcasts, the Bolshoi brings an exalting performance of Shakespeare’s immortal story, “Romeo and Juliet,” captured live from Moscow.

“Romeo and Juliet” will be shown at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s much-loved score with its famous melodies and universal theme, this timeless masterpiece of impossible love remains an all-time favorite, and is one of the world’s most beloved ballets, according to a press release.

Stellar performances by Anna Nikulina as Juliet and Alexander Volchkov as Romeo illuminate this masterpiece, making the tale of the two most famous star-crossed lovers an unforgettable experience.

Tickets to “Romeo and Juliet” are $20 for adults and $12 for students.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Boy and Girl Scouts will pick up any Scouting for Food donations starting at 9 a.m.

• A free maple syrup demonstration will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at Myre-Big Island State Park. Attendees will learn how to identify and tap the correct trees, as well as how to boil the sap into syrup. There will also be a tasting. The event is free but a vehicle permit is required to enter the park.

• The Southern Gateway Chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association will have a basket night and gun raffle from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Hamburger, chicken strip or brat baskets are available for $8.

 

Sunday

• The Albert Lea VFW will have a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, milk, orange juice and coffee will be served.

• A Dad’s Belgian Waffle breakfast will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Glenville. Adults are $6 in advance or $7 at the door, children from 6 to 12 are $4 in advance or $5 at the door and children 5 and under are free. Carryouts are $7.

• The Goodtime Band Concert will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Glenville United Methodist Church. A donation will be accepted. A coffee social will follow the music.

• The second annual FunFest will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crossroads Church. There will be a kids carnival, activities, games, Easter egg hunt and jumpies. There will be a pork feed starting at 5 p.m. with donations accepted. There will also be Crossroads Live!, a talent contest.
