Sheriff’s Office issues burning ban

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office issued a burning ban this morning as increased wind speeds and dropping humidity are expected to create high fire conditions.
The ban is in effect until 7 p.m. today.
The National Weather Service has also issued a red flag warning for south central and southeastern Minnesota as strong southerly winds from 25 to 35 mph are expected to develop this morning and persist through the afternoon.
While this is occurring, humidity levels will drop to around 25 percent. The Weather Service states the strong winds and low humidities will combine to create the threat for critical fire weather conditions. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
The Weather Service issued a wind advisory from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for multiple counties, including Freeborn, Blue Earth, Waseca and Steele counties, as south winds are expected to be 30 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
The Weather Service states driving may be difficult at times because of the wind, especially for high profile and lightweight vehicles. Unsecured outdoor items may be blown around.
Thunderstorms are expected tonight as a cold front moves through the area.
