Rochester Military Order of the Purple Heart, which has members in the Austin and Albert Lea area, gives out its first scholarship for children and/or grandchildren of members of the Rochester Military Order of the Purple Heart. Applicants had to include a statement with parent or grandparent’s name and ways they help out a combat wounded veteran relative, volunteer work they have done and/or extra activities they are involved in and what they’re going to school for. Funds for the scholarship were raised last summer by chapter adjutant Duane Hodge, chapter chaplain Charles Ludlow and chapter commander Ryan Sabinish. The scholarship was awarded to Jared and Tyler, grandchildren of Rochester Military Order of the Purple Heart member Duane Hodge.
