New levy replaces two that expire at end of year

Voters in the Glenville-Emmons school district approved an operating referendum on Tuesday night.

Out of 536 voters, 315 voted to approve the referendum and 221 voted to not approve the referendum.

Jerry Reshetar, Glenville-Emmons superintendent, said the numbers are unofficial until the school board approves them, but a little over 58 percent of the votes were in favor of the referendum.

The referendum will allocate $1,439 per student towards the general fund. Reshetar said the general fund can be used to pay salaries, buy supplies and keep buildings maintained.

Two referendums that are currently on the books will expire at the end of the year, and Reshetar said these referendums have been in effect for about 10 years. A referendum hasn’t been voted on since those referendums have been passed, Reshetar said, including referendums that might have failed a vote.

The referendum that was just approved will replace both of those referendums, Reshetar said, and will add a little money as well.

Reshetar said the district is pleased with the amount of people that voted on the referendum. He said 536 voters coming out from a small community is a very good turnout.

He also said he is pleased with the overwhelming support of the voters saying they will help the school.
