45 mph Gusts may lead to difficult driving

Freeborn County and other counties across southern Minnesota will be under a wind advisory today as strong winds are expected across the area.

The advisory is in effect until 6 p.m., with the strongest winds expected between 1 and 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service Bureau out of Chanhassen.

Sustained northwest winds will increase to between 25 and 35 mph with frequent gusts to 45 mph.

The strong winds will lead to difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles, especially when traveling along north and south roads.

Any lightweight outdoor items may be blown around if not secured, the Weather Service stated.

The winds come as colder air moved into the area in the last few days.

Breezy conditions are expected to continue Wednesday, with gusts as high as 30 mph predicted.

The winds calm on Thursday as sunny conditions are expected.

Temperatures this week are forecasted in the upper 40s and 50s with a slight chance of rain and snow even expected on Friday.

Temperatures are expected to return to the 60s on Monday.

The average high temperature for this time of year is 57, while the low is 37. The record high is 75.
