Val J. Schneider, 85, of Adams, Minn., died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Adams Health Care Center.

Val was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Adams, to Matt and Rose (Reicherts) Schneider. He served in World War II in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He married Ella Vogel on Dec. 28, 1946, at St Finbarr’s Church in Grand Meadow, Minn. They farmed south of Adams for 30 years. In 1976, they moved to Adams. Later in 2005, they moved to the Cedar Court Apartments west of Adams. Val was a member of the Adams American Legion Post 146 and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ella Schneider of Adams; son, Melvin (Maggie) Schneider of Elgin, Minn.; daughters, Diane Schneider of Rochester, Eileen Schneider of Rochester; grandchildren, Mike, Mi Chelle (Shawn), Matt (Nina), Mark (Heidi), Merrideth, Sarah (Roger); great-grandchildren, Ella, Noah, Ty, Eli, Tessa, Philip, Erik, Cassandra, James, and Josie; sister, Margaret Babb; sister-in-law, Carol Vogel; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Pete, Lee, and Bernard and sisters, Agnes Tollefson, and Helen Rusnak.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas Loomis officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Adams Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Don Merton, Jerome Kirtz, Danny Kasel, Mike Schneider, Freddie Koenigs, and Al Fasbender.
