After starting the season with a 3-6 record, the United South Central baseball team beat the No. 7-ranked team in the Class A polls.
Trevor Stencel went the distance on the mound for the Rebels with six strikeouts and no walks, and USC took down Medford 5-2 Tuesday at Wells.
“You can do a lot of things when guys throw it across the plate and play great defense,” said Rebels coach Pat Frank.
To go with solid pitching, USC had only one fielding error.
“We played a good clean game,” Frank said. “We played the way we should be able to play. I’m excited for the next couple of weeks.”
Ryan Kloos led the Rebels by going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Grant Becher, Colin Wegner and Cody Latusek had one hit each.
USC led 5-0 going through six innings and gave up two runs in the top of the seventh but hung on for the win.
Next, the Rebels host a doubleheader against NRHEG (5-3 overall).
