The third-grade students of St. Casimir’s School in Wells recently finished reading their story of Pompeii, “Buried Alive!” After learning how the ancient Roman city was destroyed and buried under 13-20 feet of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the students decided that it would be exciting to build their own exploding volcano during a recent science experiment. The students made their own clay volcano and added baking soda, vinegar and pop rocks to create a popping volcanic eruption. The project was a wonderful mix of science, curiosity, art and good old fun as shown when Destiny Chavez’s volcano spewed forth under the watchful gaze of Brooklyn Miller. – Provided
