Drug evidence destroyed in ongoing case

CHASKA — Carver County sheriff’s officials said some drug evidence in an ongoing case has inadvertently been destroyed.

After 21 pounds of marijuana went missing earlier this year, the sheriff’s department did an inventory on all 16,000 pieces of evidence in its property rooms. Eighty-one items were found to be missing. Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud said the items were mostly digital files that had been logged, but not properly stored.

The marijuana is tied to two of five drug charges against a Minneapolis man. Kamerud believes the marijuana was destroyed along with 100 pounds from another case that had been completed.
