Today was my last day of my first year of college, so I thought I’d share my most recent speech I gave for my communications class. It is about an event I participated in this past weekend.

When I was 14, I experienced something no one should ever have to go through. I lost my mom to breast cancer.

Today I am going to talk to you about an organization that is very important to me and my family: Susan G. Komen.

Ever since my mom died, my family has been involved in this organization, including a yearly 5k walk on Mother’s Day. By donating to Susan G. Komen, it will help fund breast cancer research, reducing the number of women who lose their battle to the disease. Giving your time and even a small donation to Susan G. Komen you can make a difference in the lives of women across the country.

One in eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime. Women need to be educated on the importance of getting screened for breast cancer. If a woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer, she should have support throughout her treatment.

Now that we have covered why we need to support Susan G. Komen, let’s talk about how we can support Susan G. Komen.

Besides directly donating money to Susan G. Komen, you can also participate in events. Komen Race for the Cure is a series of walks and runs across the country that serves as both an education and fundraising event.

Susan G. Komen 3-Day is a 60-mile, three-day walk and fundraising event.

Now that we have covered how you can volunteer to help Susan G. Komen, let’s talk about the significance of helping Susan G. Komen.

I believe it is important to support the research to find a cure for breast cancer and to support the women and families affected by this disease.

By supporting Susan G. Komen, we show our support to those fighting the disease.

Donating time and money to Susan G. Komen will help fund research to find a cure.

Too many women lose their lives to breast cancer each year. Susan G. Komen is a foundation that is dedicated to finding a cure. By supporting them, we support those who fight the disease each day and the fight for a cure.

Please considering donating to Susan G. Komen or participating in an event. They are hosted all throughout the year, all over the country. If we all pitch in to find a cure for breast cancer, girls like my sister and I won’t have to grow up without their mother. I hope that one day we will see a world like that.
