To Riverland Community College.
The college, which has locations in Albert Lea, Austin and Owatonna, celebrated its 75th anniversary this weekend with an Athletic Hall of Fame induction, the Jubilee Jam and two golf tournaments. We congratulate those who were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and Riverland leaders on this achievement. Thank you for being such a great community resource for so many.
To the people and businesses who donated to the fireworks fundraiser.
Volunteers with the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with KATE Radio, collected $16,551 at the corner of Broadway and Main Street on Friday that will be used to fund the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. It’s awesome that the community can rally together just in one day to make this a reality. Thanks to everyone who supported it.
To community members raising awareness about mental health illness.
The United Way of Freeborn County and the Freeborn County Community Mental Health Collaboration hosted a lunch and learn presentation on Friday with a representative from the National Alliance of Mental Illness. The goal is to reduce the stigma of mental illness so people feel OK to talk about it and seek help as needed.
To looming layoffs because of unresolved bills in the state Legislature.
Though talks on bills continued this week, as of the Tribune’s deadline, no deal had yet been reached. A budget must be approved before July 1. We hope, for everyone’s sake, this will happen.
