Here are highlights in history for May 9, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1989 — The Minnesota Festival Theater was preparing to present “Pump Boys and Dinettes,” a play based on country-western music.
1979 — State presidents of the Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin Business and Professional Women participated in a “Hands Across the Border” meeting at the Elks Club in Albert Lea.
1959 — Albert Lea City Manager Barkley Omans told the council the runway at the city’s airport might need to be extended at least 800 feet.
