Maxine Berntson, 1930-2015

Maxine Lillian Berntson, 85, entered eternal life on Sunday, June 21, 2015.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Village at Skyline, 2365 Patriot Heights, Colorado Springs, Colorado. The celebration will be followed by a viewing from noon to 2 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Maxine was born to John Wheeler and Eva Grace (Barney) Evans on Jan. 29, 1930, in Faribault. Maxine graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1947. She married Wallace Walter Berntson in 1950 at First Methodist Church in Albert Lea.
Maxine worked at First National Bank in Colorado Springs. She advanced her skills while working at the Ft. Carson Supply & Services Division where she earned many letters of appreciation and commendations. She later served as secretary and treasurer at Crystal Park Homeowners Association.
Maxine was strong in her faith and always there to lend a helping hand. She was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs. She also played a key role in the Music Evangilism Foundation.
Survivors include her husband, Wally; sisters Ethel Kaplan and Dorothy Christiansen; and brother, Robert (Lila) Evans.
She is preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and Donald and sisters Shirley Whitehurst and Catherine Greenwood.
A frequent saying often heard from Maxine was, “Thanks a million.” Her family has said, “As we say goodbye, your family and friends would like to say ‘Thanks a million, Maxine’ for your love, guidance and compassion. Your journey on Earth is done. Well done, good and faithful servant.”
