EAGAN — A Maryland man and a New York woman have been charged with identity theft after police said they found 79 cloned credit cards in their rental car in a Twin Cities suburb.
Charges were filed in Dakota County Tuesday against 20-year-old Hasohn Douglas and 24-year-old Arion Anis. They were arrested June 25 in Eagan following reports of fraudulent activity at a nearby store, and police said an officer who stopped them also saw numerous gift cards in their car.
A criminal complaint said the suspects bought several gift cards using different credit cards, and that an employee saw about 30 credit cards in Douglas’ wallet.
The complaint said Douglas told police Anis asked him to buy gift cards for a baby shower and had to use multiple credit cards because he couldn’t make purchases over $50.
