ST. PAUL — St. Paul’s mayor has invited the president of Major League Soccer to take a look at some land in the city suitable for a new stadium.
Mayor Chris Coleman said nearly 15 acres near Snelling and University Ave. in St. Paul is easily accessible by Metro Transit train and bus and would be a great place for a stadium that would anchor retail, housing and green space.
MLS President Mark Abbott recently said that with the passage of a July 1 deadline for a stadium plan in Minneapolis, the league would turn its attention to St. Paul as it considers the area as a potential expansion market.
Coleman said the excitement over the USA winning the Women’s World Cup shows there’s growing support for soccer.
