50 years ago: 1965
• Jerry Schewe had three hits to lead Oakland to a 19-13 victory over Mansfield in the Albert Lea Church Softball League.
• In the Albert Lea Slowpitch League, the Northside Businessman defeated Polly Meadows 14-9. Ron Swanson hit two home runs, and Duane Hahn was the winning pitcher for Northside.
• The Albert Lea Lakettes defeated Mason City 5-3 in a fastpitch softball game. Winning pitcher Marlene Gray threw a one-hitter. Mary Anderson doubled for the Lakettes.
• Jim Grant pitched a shutout and center fielder Jimmie Hall hit two home runs for the Minnesota Twins in their 9-0 won over the Boston Red Sox.
25 years ago: 1990
• Champions in the Minnesota Golf Association District 4 Tournament were Missy Boom, Lisa Christopherson and Donna Boom from Albert Lea. They advanced to the regional tournament.
• Champions in the men’s division of the Green Lea Club Tournament were: Championship Flight, Mick Hockinson; Presidential Flight, Scott Rasmussen; First Flight, Terry Strand; Second Flight, Ace Carlson; Third Flight, Ross Peterson; Fourth Flight, Ed Bellrichard; Fifth Flight, Chuck Lee; Sixth Flight, Bill Intihar; Seventh Flight, Foster Jensen; Eighth Flight, Marv Hockinson; Ninth Flight, Bill Elliott; 10th Flight, Don Richter. In the women’s division, Shirley Strand won the Championship Flight. The winner of the First Flight was Betty Ellertson, and Donna Werner won the Second Flight.

• Cameron Hove was in goal for the Albert Lea U12 boys’ soccer team in its 2-0 win over New Ulm. Julio Ambriz and Cal Persig scored goals for Albert Lea.
• The Albert Lea Legion baseball team defeated Austin 12-3. Josh Jordahl was the winning pitcher. Brandon Klukow had three hits in four at-bats and drove in four runs, and Arik Matson had two RBIs.
• Josh Kluender homered and had three RBIs for the Glenville-Emmons Legion baseball team in its 7-6 win over New Richland.
• Jesse Tovar and Spencer Dahl scored two goals each for the Albert Lea U17 Elks boys’ soccer team in a 4-0 victory over Richfield. Albert Lea’s season record improved to 7-2-1.
