GAYLORD — The president of a Gaylord ambulance service was killed while riding his bicycle and members of his crew had to respond to the call.
According to a press release, Gaylord Mayor Don Boeder said that 51-year-old Thomas Webster was struck at about 3 p.m. Friday by a dump truck near a road construction zone downtown and died later that afternoon.
Boeder said members of his own ambulance crew responded to the crash. His fiancee also works there, but she was not among those rendering aid.
The city about 60 miles southwest of Minneapolis has about 2,300 people. Boeder said everyone knows everyone in the small town so it’s a tough loss.
Webster was also a former Gaylord police officer.
