The Waldorf College women’s wrestling team continues to solidify its incoming recruiting class with the addition of Jasmine Alexander, according to a press release.
Alexander, who competed at 106 pounds and graduated from San Jacinto High School in 2015, signed a letter of intent with the Warriors on Monday.
“We are very excited to have Jasmine join us,” Waldorf coach Tyreece Gilder said. “She will add both more talent and depth to our lightweights.”
A two-year varsity letter winner at San Jacinto, Alexander was 2015 state qualifier for the Tigers and was coached by Stan Holmes and Elliot Diaz. After placing 11th in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section (SS) Tournament in 2014, she continued an upward trend during her senior season. Alexander earned third in the 2015 CIF SS Tournament and placed fifth in the CIF Masters Tournament en route to a top-12 finish at state.
Alexander is the daughter of Toni Alexander. She plans to study criminal justice at Waldorf and said she chose the college due to the close-knit relationships she developed with her new coaches and teammates.
“From the beginning of college searches, Waldorf always had my attention,” Alexander said. “The coaches and team members would always keep in touch with me. It was nice to know they cared so much even though I wasn’t part of the team yet.”
Alexander is the 16th member of Waldorf’s 2015-16 recruiting class. The chance to compete at the collegiate level has her ready to battle on the mat for the Warriors.
“It means the world for me to be able to continue my athletic career,” Alexander said. “My heart belongs to wrestling and if I couldn’t continue, I would be crushed. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity and brighten up my life.”
