The leading scorer and rebounder on the Albert Lea boys’ basketball team is headed to Rochester John Marshall.
Although an athletic transfer has not been completed and verified, paperwork was requested by John Marshall for Chan’s enrollment, said Albert Lea Athletic Director Afton Wacholz.
“We wish him the best at his new school,” she said. “We are trying to stay focused on moving forward with our program.”
Chan, a soon-to-be junior, led the Tigers last year with 7.1 rebounds and 21.9 points per game, which was the second-highest scoring average in the Tribune’s seven-team coverage area. He was a First Team All-Area selection. Chan excelled in the paint and on the perimeter. He made a team-high 48 3-pointers last season.
Albert Lea finished 0-27 last season. Tigers head coach Lucas Kreuscher resigned after the season.
John Marshall (23-6, 19-3 Big Nine) won the conference title. The Rockets had 20 or more wins each of the last three seasons.
The Tigers will host the Rockets in the third game of the season at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
