Wind Down Wednesday canceled early because of weather

The final Wind Down Wednesday of the summer was canceled early after a rainy, windy start on Wednesday.
With a gloomy forecast for the rest of the evening, organizers called off the event at 2 p.m., said organizer Susie Petersen, executive director of the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Albert Lea Fire Department had canceled its plans for a pop-up splash pad earlier in the day.
Though disappointed, Petersen said she is thankful that the previous two Wind Down Wednesdays were a success. The event is a market and music festival on Broadway that is set up like an outdoor market, offering food, drinks, live entertainment and arts and crafts vendors.
“It’s been a great community event, and we’re looking forward to next year,” she said.
Petersen said people can look forward to Celebrate Albert Lea Oct. 10. For this event, Broadway will be closed down for festivities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there will be vendors and a kiddie train, among other activities. The Color Dash is also typically held this day.
