MINNEAPOLIS — Art lovers in Minneapolis are getting a treat: A painting by Vincent Van Gogh is going on display at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
Van Gogh’s 1890 painting titled “Irises, Saint-Rimy-de Provence” is the museum’s third so-called “Masterpiece” surprise. The series is part of special programming to celebrate the museum’s centennial.
The painting is being unveiled Friday morning. It’s on loan from Van Gogh’s namesake museum in Amsterdam.
According to a press release, “Irises” is a big display of lush blue and purple blossoms against a sunny yellow background.
It will be on view until Oct. 4 and admission is free.
