50 years ago: 1965

• In the first game of the Albert Lea Women’s Softball League playoffs, Michael’s House of Beauty upset the Cabin Bar 7-6. Marlene Gray was the winning pitcher, and Sharon Jenson had three hits in four at-bats for Michael’s. Jan Larson hit a three-run homer for Cabin Bar.

• Hayward won the playoff title over Freeborn 18-3. Winning pitcher Jim Lair, Ed Stalker and Denny Lair each had four hits for Hayward. Neal Skaar and Stalker homered for Hayward.

• Trinity-Our Savior defeated Conger 5-0 to win the National Division of the Albert Lea Church Softball League playoffs. Team members included Elwood Lande, Loyle Flo, Dennis Jensen, Larry Peterson, Rog Anderson, Richard Davis, Monte Johnson, Max Swenson, Murph Berg, Kenneth Peterson and Bob Jensen.

25 years ago: 1990

• The Albert Lea Colonels defeated Gaylord 5-3 in 10 innings in a first-round game at the Minnesota state adult amateur baseball tournament. Joe Sczublewski was the winning pitcher.

• The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team won its league title and was the 1990 Subdistrict D champion with an 18-5 season record to date. Team members included Matt Honsey, Dan Follmuth, Paul Ahearn, Jason Senne, Tracy Monson, Bill Toulouse, Scott Fredrickson, Ryan Rasmussen, Terry Schilling, Doug Yost, Kevin Sullivan, Shannon Froendt, Wendell Schilling and Jeff Yost.

• The Albert Lea girls’ tennis team opened practice with seven returning letter winners including seniors Kari Haanstad, Lisa Frame, Missy Podlogar and Vicki Oliver; junior Kelly Laumann; and freshmen Sarah Volkenant and Kristen Adams.

10 years ago: 2005

• The Albert Lea girls’ tennis team defeated Lyle-Pacelli 6-1. Winning singles matches for the Tigers were Amanda Leonard at No. 1, Nicki Hendrickson at No. 2 and Hali Hendrickson at No. 3. Winning doubles matches for Albert Lea were Liz Thompson and Cara Thorn at No. 1, Brie Bangert and Laura Hibbard at No. 2 and Sarah Jensen and Dani Merfeld at No. 3.
