Albert Lea falls against No. 10 AAA Belle Plaine

Despite racking up 148 rushing yards, the Albert Lea football team lost its second district game of the season.
The Tigers (0-2, 0-2 South Central Red) fell 48-14 Friday at No. 10 (AAA) Belle Plaine (2-0, 1-0 South Central Red).
Jake Kilby led Albert Lea’s rushing attack with 78 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Jesse Hernandez added 34 yards — including a four-yard touchdown — on five carries.
“Some of our young guys stepped up,” said Albert Lea coach Kevin Armbrust, referring to Hernandez and Noah Habana, who had three tackles. “Cody Ball also had a great game coming in late. He will likely see a lot more varsity time in the near future.”
Emmitt Stevens and Dawson Luttrell led the Tigers’ defense with six tackles each.
Sean Brownlow and Sam Chalmers each recorded an interception.
Brownlow also led the Tigers’ receiving corps. with three catches for 35 yards.
Next, Albert Lea will host Worthington (0-2, 0-1 South Central Red) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Trojans lost their opener 34-0 at Lu Verne and are coming off a 31-30 double overtime home loss against St. Peter.
