United South Central was one of 14 cross country teams that competed Friday through windy and rainy conditions at the 4,000-meter course at Fairmont High School, according to a press release.
Each grade raced independently, said Rebels coach Rita Augustine.
Thomas Mantor led USC with a fourth-place finish in the senior race and a time of 14:50, which was a 25-second improvement from last year.
Also competing in the senior race were Dylan Blakesley (19:11), Tikvah Schwartz (19:39), and Cameron Whiteside (20:30).
In the junior race, Chris Mulholland completed the course in 15:56, an improvement from last year. Cross country newcomer, Kate Koestler, completed the course with a time of 22:56.
The sophomore runners included Jonathan Schwartz (15:58), Hunter Malwitz (16:43), and Cody Cory (17:56).
John Mantor (17:42) and Sam Schwartz (22:40) participated in the freshmen race.
The distance for the middle school races was a mile. Rebels middle school runners included Justin Cory (6:34), Jakob Ratelle (6:22), Destiny Olson (7:56), Kaylee Carlson (7:37), Taige Suhr (8:18), and Trystan Servantez.
Servantez finished fifth in her race with a time of 7:03.
USC took fifth place out of 13 complete boys’ teams.
The Rebels girls’ team had an incomplete team.
All 9th- through 12th-grade athletes ran a 4-kilometer course. New for this season, the Minnesota State High School League increased the distance for the girls’ race from 4,000 to 5,000 meters.
Due to the state fair taking place, Caleb Hubbard, Beth Stevermer and Kristen Hubbard did not compete.
Next, the Rebels will compete Wednesday at Mountain Lake.
