ST. PAUL (AP) — Warm, humid weather is helping keep development of Minnesota’s corn and soybean crops ahead of last year’s pace.

According to the USDA’s weekly crop report, there were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork in Minnesota for the week ending Sunday.

The report said 85 percent of Minnesota’s corn acreage was in or beyond the dent stage — 11 days ahead of last year and a week ahead of the five-year average. With corn starting to mature, the crop’s condition is rated 88 percent good to excellent.

Sixty-one percent of the soybean acreage was turning color or beyond, 10 days ahead of last year and six days ahead of average. Fourteen percent of soybean acreage was dropping leaves, slightly ahead of normal.

The small grain harvest was wrapping up across Minnesota.
