Viola Brubak, 1920-2015

Viola Minerva (Evenson) Brubak, 95, of Northwood, formerly of Kiester, passed away at Hospice of North Iowa Center in Mason City, Iowa, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. The Rev. Katie Pals will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Homes of Wells is assisting the family. Viola Minerva was born June 11, 1920, on a farm near Joice, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Beulah (Twedt) Evenson. She was baptized June 27, 1920, at Bethany Lutheran Church and confirmed May 25, 1934, at Concordia Lutheran. Viola graduated from Joice High School in 1938 and worked in private homes until her marriage. She was united in marriage to Raymond Brubak on Aug. 27, 1942, in Tennessee and was a faithful Army wife while Raymond served for five years and one month. After the war, the couple farmed in the Kensett area for five years before moving to Kiester. Raymond and Viola had three children, Karen, Marjorie Lynn and Ron. Viola worked in the school lunch program for close to 25 seasons. She was always active in her church and enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and gardening, as well as being a homemaker.
Viola is survived by her children: Karen Brubak of Hopkins, Marjorie Lynn Brubak of Long Beach, California, and Ron (Janet) of St. Paul; grandchildren Pamela (Mark) Marti of Minnetonka, Greg (Debra) Johnson of Rosemount, Amy (Robert) Griffin of Little Rock, Arkansas, Ben Brubak of St. Paul, Leah (Joel) Benolken of St. Paul and Anna Brubak of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren Clair and Emma Marti, Alexis, Carly and Riley Johnson, Grace, Anna, Sylvia and Reider Griffin, and Isabel and Sidney Benolken; sister, Marilyn (Milton) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years and four months, Raymond; her parents; siblings Harlan, Loma, Irene, LaVonne and Elaine; twins Arthur and Arlette; and many relatives and friends.
